I was a sales rep. for a local tea and coffee company, R. B. Hayhoe Co. Ltd. in the early and mid 50’s. One responsibility was to go to the islands 4 or 5 times a season to visit hotels, restaurants and a groceteria (on Ward’s Island). To get around, I would rent a bicycle from Emily Durnan at Hanlan’s Point in the a.m., return it in the p.m. and head back to the mainland with my orders. Fond memories to be certain.
